The pilgrimage way called Portugués to Santiago de Compostela ascends from south to north from Lisbon, goes past Coimbra and Porto, and crosses the bordering river Miño at Valença and Tui. Once in Galicia it goes by the Meridional Depresion. This ascent section to Canicouva was traditionally one of the roughest and most difficult to restore because of the heavy rainfalls.
